Burning My Plow

What is the plow that I need to burn?

God is calling me - calling each one of us - to something new.

But before we can find out what that wonderful new thing is, we have to burn the plows of the past  as Elisha did in the Old Testament.

I long for the joy and freedom of the new - the true call of God's desire for my life - but I find it so hard to burn the plow of approval and people-pleasing that has driven so much of my past.

I like to make people happy.

I like to be "nice".

I don't like to make waves.

I don't like conflict.

I don't like change.

I like easy and comfortable.

I just want to be a sweet and agreeable Southern girl.

Isn't that who the world wants/needs me to be?

That may be convenient and pleasant but somehow I don't think it lines up with the greater life that God is calling me to live.

I pray for the courage and the faith to push forward through the resistance, the fog, the darkness and the doubt,  trusting that my obedience will lead me into the glorious light of freedom and truth.

  1. Ouch to that. I have many of those same nets. I don't like change, I want to make people happy and I don't like to make waves. God is teaching me this year I need to make alot of change and I have but I know He's not finished. I retired, but now am leading in these on-line Bible studies with Melissa Taylor. I also started sub teaching. Both of which are out of my comfort zone but I felt God leading me to do it. And I have been having to make changes at home after working my whole life for 43 years in a job with this house not being clean. I think God jolted me into that too - broken tiles now we have new, a new kitchen and I have lots of cleaning to get this all finished. Blessings lady and keep blogging. Debbie W. (OBS Leader)

  2. Thank you for sharing Sandee! I too, am a people pleaser that does not like to make waves! I am also retired, and loving it but God seems to be filling up my time! I know exactly the ministry the Lord is leading me to, but I've got a lot of plows to burn! Love your blog! Lynda P, OBS Leader

  3. Sandee, I'm also a people pleaser! Your blog is great because it's caused me to stop and think. I'd never thought of my people-pleasing tendencies to be a "plow" that I need to burn. Thanks for opening my eyes to this concept.
    God bless you.

  4. Sandee, thanks for sending your link! It worked! :) I'm not too tech-saavy either I can so relate to what you are saying here, although I'm not a southern girl... I will come back and read more. God bless you with his peace over everything today. Love, Pam - apples of gold
